Giving Honor
Volume 1, No. 13
If you were raised in the Black church in America as soon as you heard -”giving honor".” Your mind automatically finished —”to God who is the head of my life.” With the upcoming Memorial Day, I am giving honor to the black men and women who gave their lives for a country that did not always love them back. The more I think about that statement, I realize that when they fought it was always more than love of country. It ranged from gaining physical freedom to financial freedom through education with the GI Bill.
Below are a few stories about the sacrifices black women made in every major U.S. war. Usually for Memorial Day you share the story of those who died in battle and honor their sacrifice. Unfortunately, most of those stories cannot be told because no one made the time to document them.

Find someone in your family who served in the Armed Forces and document their story.
Some of the greatest lives ever lived are not known because no one documented the story. The definition of "great" is not a matter of size but of substance.
Until next time.....remember your voice and stories matters!
